TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) Tel Aviv dog owners, beware. An undercover squad of city inspectors with cameras and night-vision equipment is on the prowl for pet dogs leaving droppings on the sidewalks.
For the past month, plainclothes teams have secretly photographed dog owners who walk away from pet poop and more than 260 people have been fined $100 each, city spokesman Arnon Perlman said.
The inspectors were brought in after the failure of a campaign urging dog owners to clean up after their pets. Tel Aviv, a city of 380,000 people, is home to 12,000 dogs.
"It is a problem and we have to deal with it," Perlman said.
